The return of the Rated-R comedy supremacy at the box office continued this weekend with the $31.2 million opening of “Superbad.”
It’s not the that Hollywood has ceased watering down comedies to get that PG-13 rating and that coveted teen demo. But the industry has produced quality adult comedies that don’t bend over backward to please the Motion Picture Association of America at the expense of moviegoers.
Last summer, surprise hit “40-Year-Old Virgin” and “Wedding Crashers” topped the summer box office schedule. And this year, Judd Apatow, who also directed “40-Year-Old Virgin,” delivered on “Knocked Up” and last week’s “Superbad.”
Here is the rest of this weekend’s box office numbers: 1. "Superbad," $31.2 million. 2. "Rush Hour 3," $21.8 million. 3. "The Bourne Ultimatum," $19 million. 4. "The Simpsons Movie" $6.7 million. 5. "The Invasion," $6 million. 6. "Stardust," $5.2 million. 7. "Hairspray," $4.3 million. 8. "Underdog," $3.6 million. 9. "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix," $3.54 million. 10. "I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry," $3.5 million. [Associated Press via CNN.com]

Rove says the obvious
On NBC’s “Meet the Press,” the “architect,” “Bush’s Brain” and soon-to-be ex-White House Deputy Chief of Staff Karl Rove predicted that the 2008 presidential election will be tough for the Republicans to win.
With such a “Duh” remark, one has to wonder whether Rove is up to something, like lowering expectations, getting the Dems hopes up so they rest on their laurels letting the Republicans sweep the election.
Or may be Rove is no Machiavelli after all. [The Swamp] Compiled by Dwayne Robinson, TheSequitur.com Senior Editor.
