Cannabis cure for ‘Mad Cow’? |
You can always count on the Kiwis to come up with some wacky ideas. A New Zealand pro-cannabis group may have finally taken it to the limit.
According to a recent French study, cannabidiol – a non-psychotrophic component of the cannabanoid chemicals – could possibly be effective in preventing bovine spongiform encephalopathy (BSE), a.k.a. Mad Cow disease, and other prion diseases. The chemical works by inhibiting the development of prion proteins in some mammals, but it is still unclear what the effects are in humans.
You cannot help but envision a bunch of hippy scientists blowing bong tokes into the faces of a bunch of bovines. Hopefully though, there is some credence to this scientific find – we can always use another weapon in the war against disease.
