Episode 27: “I want the story out there as much as possible.”

So said Andrew Meyer in a call to his father from jail after being Tasered at a John Kerry forum at the University of Florida. Your wish was our command Andrew. Your story went international, and it continues with your heartfelt apology to the University of Florida president and campus police, in which you said, “I made the decision to supersede the rules, and for that I apologize. I should have acted calmer and obeyed the directives of the officers. If I had, none of the subsequent issues would ever have arisen.”

Compare that tone with Andrew's tone in phone calls to his father from jail after his arrest at the incident, where he instructs his father on various ways to get the story publicized, asks if his dad “want[s] to sue the bastards,” calls John Kerry a “scumbag,” and laughs more than I would imagine most people would laugh while placing a phone call from jail.

Judging from the phone call he made, Meyer found the entire situation hilarious. Maybe everything is all about laughs for Meyer – from the Kerry incident to the time he stood in the street with a “Harry Dies” sign after the release of the final Harry Potter book, to the time he filmed himself acting drunk and trying to pick up a cross-dresser in a bar.

After seeing video of Meyer's other antics, I have to say that I can't blame the guy for trying to get a laugh out of life. I just don't get the joke.

You say, “After seeing video of Meyer's other antics, I have to say that I can't blame the guy for trying to get a laugh out of life. I just don't get the joke.”
Perhaps a complex personality is more difficult to understand. It was not a joke. It is not essential to limit oneself serious things. Some can appreciate the slapstick AND the serious.
His “other antics” aren’t relevant to this story. Nor are his words to his father from jail.
He has a reason to want the story publicized. Check out his website.
It disturbs me that as a supervising editor of the Educational Testing Service you haven’t done your homework.
