Scientologists threatened a lawsuit to get a video of Tom Cruise emphatically stressing the benefits and joy of the faith pulled from the Internet.
The video was leaked to video-file sharing Web site YouTube and was still up this morning. The video has been played nearly 50,000 times with nearly 1,000 comments. The site was threatened with a copyright infringement lawsuit by the church.
I think it's a privilege to call yourself a Scientologist and it is something that you have to earn because a Scientologist does,” Cruise said in the opening of the video.
The 2004 video shows an interview-type format with Cruise talking over the soundtrack for Mission: Impossible.
The nine-minute video's release coincided with the publication of a book written by Andrew Morton. The book alleges the Hollywood star ranks second-in-command in the Church of Scientology.
"Being a Scientologist, when you drive past an accident, it's not like anyone else; as you drive past, you know you have to do something about it, because you know you're the only one that can really help," Cruise said later in the video.
