MOULTRIE, Ga. – Our bags are packed, our gear is loaded, and we’re off to the sixth annual Bonnaroo Music & Arts festival, North America’s premier summer extravaganza.
More than 80,000 people are expected to show up at this year’s festival, which features more than 100 artists, comedians and other fantastic events… and we get to cover it! In a perfect world, we would sample every item Bonnaroo has to offer; alas, we are but mere mortals. With twelve stages and other activities going on around the clock, there is just no possible way to see it all. But damn it, we’re going to try.
As we head north, away from the palms and pines of Florida, the roads in peach country softly bank and turn over rolling hills – a stark contrast to the flat, hypnotic straight-aways characteristic of the Sunshine State.
Normally, these roads would be dotted with peach stands, but we have yet to see one – perhaps because of the crop freeze reported back in early spring. However, there is plenty of watermelon available. We’re still clinging to hope that our five hour drive through Georgia will produce at least one fresh peach for each of our three reporters. We wouldn’t mind a bag of boiled peanuts either, to hold us over until within range of Bonnaroo Radio, 101.5 FM, broadcasting from Manchester, Tenn.
Until then, coffee and blogging will have to do.
