The Rolling Stones – the quintessential paragon for the “sex, drugs & rock’n’roll” lifestyle – have denounced drug use in response to the recent untimely deaths of a couple of young celebrities, and the impending doom of a few others. Among those, the most notable is trouble-stricken soul singer Amy Winehouse.

Singer Sir Mick Jagger and guitarist Keith Richards both insisted that Winehouse “get her act together” according to reports. Jagger and Richards, no strangers to drugs and trouble, have many confused by the “do as I say, not as I do” approach in their message. Richards, who wears years of heroin abuse in his haggard looks, warns Winehouse that if she does not curb her self-destructive ways, “she could end up looking as wrinkly and wasted” as him.

While the Stones’ message is absolutely appropriate, one has to admire the irony of the situation. Here we have the icons of drug use from the 1960’s sounding just like their parents did. It’s funny how some things come full circle, isn’t it?
