Former President Bill Clinton believes that if his wife Hillary and Barack Obama were to join forces for the presidency that they would be an "almost unstoppable force." The ex-commander-in-chief made the declaration at a Mississippi campaign appearance, where he also suggested that his wife was amenable to the idea.
Sen. Barack Obama... call(ed) the notion at this point "premature.""I know that she has always been open to it, because she believes that if you can unite the energy and the new people that he's brought in and the people in these vast swaths of small town and rural America that she's carried overwhelmingly, if you had those two things together she thinks it'd be hard to beat," stated Clinton.
Sen. Barack Obama has avoided the issue of a possible joint ticket, calling the notion at this point "premature."
"You won't see me as a vice presidential candidate, you know, I'm running for president," said Obama.
Mr. Clinton is absolutely correct in his assessment. All things said, Mr. Clinton is absolutely correct in his assessment. The problem is that while the former president sings "Kumbaya," his wife is engaging in what could ultimately be a disgraceful smear campaign against her opponent, which threatens the Democratic Party's outlook in the upcoming elections. The way things are looking at this point, it would be Sen. Clinton taking the back seat, but one wonders if her ego could sustain playing second banana to Sen. Obama. The scenario seems less and less likely as the Clinton campaign continues to devolve into a mud-slinging contest (as campaigns are wont to do).
Regardless, they are both competent and qualified candidates for the presidency, and America will have a capable leader with one of those two at the helm, if not both. [CNN, NYDailyNews, ChiTrib, KHON]
