Right-wing commentator Rush Limbaugh is known for his unconventional, often incomprehensible positions on topics of the day, but it's going to be hard for him to top statements that appear to call for riots at the Democratic National Convention taking place in Denver this summer.

His initial statement according to Newsradio 850 KOA's Web site was, “Riots in Denver at the Democrat convention would see to it we don't elect Democrats – and that's the best damn thing could happen for this country as far as anything I can think: Don't elect Democrats! ” The Denver Channel reports he has since clarified this statement by saying “I am not inspiring or inciting riots, I am dreaming of riots in Denver,” after several callers denounced his comments.

Apparently, Limbaugh thinks it would be a great thing if riots broke out in response to Barack Obama losing the Democratic nomination...Limbaugh was referring to comments made by political activist Al Sharpton, who said "there's going to be trouble" if the Democratic nomination is taken from Obama by the superdelegates casting their votes at the convention. Apparently, Limbaugh thinks it would be a great thing if riots broke out in response to Barack Obama losing the Democratic nomination – even considering it an event worth dreaming of.

Limbaugh's statements are in line with a political strategy he espouses and calls "Operation Chaos," in which Republicans cross party lines and vote for Hillary Clinton in primaries, ensuring that the Democratic battle between Clinton and Obama will last up to the Democratic National Convention and create destructive chaos among members of the party. Further, he's convinced this strategy is already working, according to statements he made to the San Francisco Chronicle.

And why does Limbaugh dream of flaming cars, dead children, and the other kinds of chaos surrounding the 1968 convention?Since the comments, Limbaugh has been on the defensive, saying that he is merely noting that if the scene of the convention is anything like that of the convention in Chicago in 1968 – infamous for the riots surrounding the event – his dream would come true. According to his official Web site, Limbaugh stated, “...if people say what's your exit strategery [sic], the dream end of this is that this keeps up to the convention and that we have a replay of Chicago 1968, with burning cars, protests, fires, literal riots, and all of that.  That's the objective here.”

And why does Limbaugh dream of flaming cars, dead children, and the other kinds of chaos surrounding the 1968 convention? Because, in his words in a transcript from his Web site, “...if it happens, from a political standpoint, the beneficiaries will be Republicans because we don't burn down things at our convention.”

Rush Limbaugh can talk all he wants about what needs to happen in this country and what is good or bad for the people of this country, but it's obvious from statements like this that he doesn't care one way or another ABOUT those people. His attitude seems to be, if it takes deadly protests to help his precious Republican party look better than everyone else – hey, that's okay. Limbaugh is known for his “screw everyone else” attitude when it comes to what the world at large thinks of the United States. But statements like this make it seem like he has the same attitude about everyone outside of the Republican party, and not only is that despicable, it's dangerous.
