Maybe Tina Fey should stick to the silver screen.
Her NBC sitcom “30 Rock” has gotten an Emmy and critical acclaim, but not many viewers. But Fey, a “Saturday Night Live” alumna, has a golden touch at the box office.
Remember the teen hit “Mean Girls?” Yup, that was her. And she did it again this weekend with “Baby Mama.”
Bloomberg News reports the film was No. 1 at the weekend box office, earning more than $18 million and beating the “Harold & Kumar” sequel.
Last weeks’ No. 1 film, “The Forbidden Kingdom” fell to third place.
Don’t expect a repeat for “Baby Mama” next week. The long-awaited “Iron Man” is opening nation-wide on Friday, starring Robert Downey, Jr.
Admittedly, I was sort of disappointed when I heard they chose him for the role, but the trailers have erased any casting fears. This is going to be a huge hit and a great start to the summer blockbuster season.
Here is the rest of this weekend’s box office numbers:
1. Baby Mama $18.3M
2. Harold & Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay $14.6M
3. The Forbidden Kingdom $11.2M
4. Forgetting Sarah Marshall $11M
5. Nim's Island $4.5M
6. Prom Night $4.4M
7. 21 $4M
8. 88 Minutes $3.6M
9. Dr. Seuss' Horton Hears a Who! $2.4M
10. Deception $2.2M
