Lead vocals Eugene Hütz rocks out on the Which Stage. Photo Adam Dubbin/TheSequitur.com TAMPA, Fla. – I have to say, these guys are absolutely insane. I was blown away by their performance last year, and this time around I was equally impressed. Up close, these "gypsy punks" put on a show that takes you to another part of the world: a distant reality where Vaudeville still exists – some dark corner of an Eastern European insane asylum. The band also reminds me a lot of the electro-punk group Electric Six, and the lead singer has a stunning resemblance in stage presence to Mike Patton when he fronted Mr. Bungle.
Armed with an old bearded guy on violin, an accordion player, drummer, guitarist and bassist – accentuated by a chick in tights banging on a parade drum and another crashing hand cymbals – the two vocalists run amok onstage, churning the crowd into a frothing frenzy. When the lead singer isn't pouring wine all over himself or screaming into the mic, he sports an acoustic guitar and joins his bandmates in music-making. Definitely a band worth seeing live, especially if you're looking for something profoundly different than the mainstream.
