Mr. Folds came onstage and went directly to his piano bench, where he and the rest of his trio launched immediately into song. At the conclusion of tune numero uno, Ben grabbed a camera and stood atop his piano, encouraging the crowd to give him "the bird." The sunburnt crowd responded with a hearty display of profane gestures, and Ben was loving it. He and his bandmates then proceeded to rock out for the rest of their set, treating the audience to an adrenaline-infused afternoon performance. I was not a big Ben Folds fan coming to Bonnaroo, but after witnessing him on Saturday, I came away both impressed and intrigued. Much like Gogol Bordello, Ben Folds is well worth seeing live.
