Larry Flynt, publisher of Hustler, and Joe Francis, creator of the “Girls Gone Wild” series, are asking Congress for a $5 billion…er…stimulus package to help the adult industry "weather difficult financial times,” NBC Philadelphia reports.
Then again, has Congress allocated money to more ludicrous pursuits in the past?According to the report, sagging DVD sales and rentals are responsible for much of the adult industry’s flaccid returns, and, shockingly, "viewers are increasingly turning to the Internet for adult entertainment,” since, you know, it took the current economic crisis to get people looking for porn on the Internet.
Flynt earned infamy when he ran a parody Campari ad in Hustler in which Jerry Falwell admitted to losing his virginity to his mother in an outhouse. Francis found his fame being someone who convinced women to show their breasts in public and made millions from it. Will the duo have any success with their joint request for a bailout? Of course not.
Then again, has Congress allocated money to more ludicrous pursuits in the past? Of course.
It all goes to prove that it’s very, very hard to be a pornographer. [NBC Philadelphia, Enfacto] Branden Hart, TheSequitur.com managing editor, works as an editor in San Antonio.
