Gomez rocks South by Southwest. Image courtesy of Flickr's IFC-the-Internet. For nearly a decade British-import group Gomez has released introspective tracks that tickle the ears. This summer, for at least a couple of hours, we’ll see how its chilled-out tunes match up against the blazing Tennessee sun.
Mercury Prize-winning Gomez was at Bonnaroo in 2006, and this year, the champions of sophisticated pop rock will bring their intelligent show to the farm in Manchester, Tenn., once again, gracing those of us stateside with the kind of clever musicianship evident on such studio releases as “In Our Gun” and “Bring It On.”
The band will have plenty of new material on display at Bonnaroo, as its highly anticipated latest album, “A New Tide,” dropped March 31 (order the album here). According to the band’s blog, “The record is expected to pick up innumerable awards from around the Globe, an effortless standard the Five Englishmen have attained.”
Gomez is sometimes light-hearted, sometimes rough around the edges, but should be able to keep the crowd amped. Throughout any composition, they are able to maintain a balance bound to be perfect for Bonnaroo – relentlessly intelligent but necessarily aggressive. When it comes to the music and the crowd, Gomez and Bonnaroo are a perfect match.
